What is Med-Ops I and II?

The Medications Options Program (or Med-Ops) is a voluntary program for people who experience difficulty with their medications. Your case manager or medical care providers may refer you to this program, or you may refer yourself.
The MOP provides a nurse to monitor medications either in your home (Med Options I) or at a community clinic (Med Options II). The nurses provide teaching and coaching about medications. This program is a partnership including you, your medical care provider, nurses in the program, and your Kandiyohi County case manager.
There are several participating agencies and you may indicate your preferred provider. Your request – whenever possible – will be honored.

Why would I use Med Options?

  • To assist me in understanding my medications
  • To learn benefi ts/side eff ects of my medications
  • To learn how to consistently monitor my own medication program
  • To assist me to remain in the community
  • To help me become more independent
  • To partner with my community’s service providers

    When would I use Med Options?

  • If I am have increasing use of inpatient facilities
  • To I and/or my medical care providers identify an increased need of crisis intervention
  • If my medical or psychiatric symptoms are unstable
  • If I find it difficult to remember to take my medications
  • If I sense my level of independence slipping
  • If I have trouble recognizing my need for consistent medications

    Where can I access Med Options?

    Your community provider can assist you to access this program. If you do not have a county case manager, the Adult Mental Health Intake workers can initiate a referral to the program. The providers of Medications Options I will deliver the medications to you in your home, or the providers of Medication Options II will meet with you at the designated clinic.

    How are the program costscovered?

    The costs of this program may be covered totally, or in part by Medical Assistance, health insurance, or third party payers. Your case manager can assist you to determine payment coverage.
